What Rockbot covers that Melodial does not

Rockbot plays mainstream commercial releases under licenses it holds, and customer song requests via the Rockbot app. Melodial plays its own catalog, written and recorded for venues. If your business needs chart music by name, Rockbot is the right product. If you need good background music that is licensed and costs $6.99, Melodial is.

How music licensing works in the US

Four organizations license the public performance of music in the United States: ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and GMR. Each represents different songwriters and publishers, and a venue playing mainstream music needs a license from all four. Fees are set per venue and rise with floor area, speakers, members or classes.

Melodial's catalog is owned by Melodial and is not registered with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC or GMR. Your subscription is the public performance license for every track you play through Melodial, and your Music License Certificate says so. Music from any other source (radio, Spotify, Pandora, CDs, live performers) is outside this license and still needs the organizations' licenses.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Melodial owns every track in its catalog outright, and none of it is registered with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC or GMR. Your subscription is the public performance license for the music you play through Melodial, and your Music License Certificate is available from day one.
Do I still need ASCAP, BMI, SESAC or GMR?
Not for music played through Melodial. Yes for music from any other source: radio, Spotify, Pandora, CDs or live performers.
