Licensing & Certificates

Every Melodial subscription includes fully licensed music and an official certificate for your venue. Here's how it works and what to do if anyone asks.

Why you don't need another music licence

When you play music from Spotify, YouTube, or a personal collection in a business, you typically need a separate public performance licence. That's because the rights holders haven't given permission for commercial use. Melodial works differently.

We own or directly license every track

Every song in the Melodial catalogue is either owned by us or licensed directly from the rights holder for commercial use. That means we can grant you permission to play it in your business — no middleman needed.

No extra fees, no extra licences

Your Melodial subscription is your licence. You don't need to pay PRS, PPL, APRA, AMCOS, Buma/Stemra, or any other collecting society. One flat price covers everything.

Get your Certificate of Compliance

Every subscription includes an official certificate that proves your venue is licensed to play Melodial music. We recommend downloading it and keeping a copy on hand — either printed or saved on your phone.

Log in to your account

Go to melodial.com/account and sign in with your website email and password.

Set up your business details

Under the License Certificate section, click Set Up Business Details. Enter your business name and address — this is what appears on your certificate.

Download your certificate

Click Download Certificate to get a PDF. Print it and keep it behind the counter, or save it on your phone so it's always handy.

If a licensing body contacts you

It's common for collecting societies (like PRS, PPL, APRA, OneMusic, or similar organisations) to contact businesses about music licensing. This can feel intimidating, but as a Melodial subscriber you're fully covered. Here's what to do.

How to respond

You don't need to panic, and you don't need to pay them. Here's what we recommend:

  1. Stay calm and polite. These organisations are doing their job — they don't yet know you're using Melodial.
  2. Show them your Melodial Certificate of Compliance. This confirms that all music played in your venue is licensed directly through Melodial and no additional public performance licence is required.
  3. Let them know you only play Melodial music. Explain that your venue exclusively uses Melodial, a fully licensed music service that holds direct agreements with rights holders.
  4. If they push back or you're unsure, contact us at info@melodial.com and we'll help you respond. We've dealt with this many times and we're happy to assist.

Important: Your certificate only covers music played through Melodial. If your staff also play music from Spotify, YouTube, personal playlists, or radio in your venue, you may still need a separate licence for that music. For full protection, stick to Melodial.
